What does a cacao ceremony do to you?
Maybe you have read about it, or someone told you it felt good. Now you want to know what actually happens. The honest answer: a cacao ceremony is mild. You stay clear-headed, you know where you are, and you stay in charge. What changes is mostly your attention and the way your body feels.
Ceremonial cacao is pure cacao paste and naturally contains theobromine, a substance related to caffeine. People describe it as a soft, warm alertness, without feeling wired. But the cacao is only part of the story. You drink slowly, you set an intention, and then there is silence, meditation and sound. That structure does at least as much as what is in the cup.

The cacao ceremony experience: what participants describe
Every experience is different, but a few things come up again and again in what participants share. Treat them as descriptions, not as something you are supposed to feel.
Warmth
Many people mention a warm feeling, sometimes in the chest, sometimes throughout the body. One participant called the cacao a heart opener. That is her word for how it felt, not a physical promise.
“The cacao gave me a warm, calm feeling, a real heart opener, and the sound healing took me into a deep state of relaxation.”
A quieter mind
People who live a lot in their heads often say their thoughts slow down. Part of that is the structure: you have something to rest your attention on, first the cacao, then the meditation, then the sound of the crystal singing bowls and the gong.
Closer contact with what you feel
Sometimes there is emotion, relief, or simply calm. Feelings sit a little closer to the surface without becoming overwhelming. For someone used to running everything from their head, that alone can be a lot. Letting go is not a condition. It is a result.
Cacao ceremony effects in participants' own words
Below are reactions from women who joined the Women's Cacao & Sound Ceremony with Rosa, translated from Dutch. You will find more stories on the experiences page.
“It was a really relaxing experience. I went home completely at ease and still felt calm for the rest of the evening.”
“The sounds in this session were really lovely, and together with the cacao they helped me relax completely. I went home with a pleasantly calm feeling and more space in my head.”
“From the very first moment I felt held in a warm, safe environment. The sound healing with the crystal singing bowls helped me relax on a deeper level, so I could really slow down and land in my body.”
What stands out: almost nobody describes only the cacao. People mention the calm, the sound and the guidance in the same breath. Rosa guides the ceremony herself and stays in the room the whole time, and afterwards there is time to share. Curious about the sound side? Read what sound healing is.
How do you feel after a cacao ceremony?
Most participants go home calm. Some notice a gentle afterglow for the rest of the day or evening: less rush, more space in the head. Others mainly notice they are tired and want an early night. Both are normal.
Try not to plan anything busy afterwards. A walk, something simple to eat and a few lines in a notebook about what you noticed help it settle. You can also hold a ceremony at home, with the same attention. The article on a cacao ceremony at home shows you how.
Can a cacao ceremony have side effects?
Most people tolerate ceremonial cacao well. Because theobromine is related to caffeine, some people notice a faster heartbeat, restlessness or a little nausea, especially on an empty stomach or if they are sensitive to caffeine. So eat something small beforehand.
Take care with serious heart conditions, MAO inhibitors or certain antidepressants, and during pregnancy. Rosa asks about your health and medication beforehand. If in doubt, check with your doctor first. There is more in is a cacao ceremony safe.

Cacao ceremony or truffle ceremony?
Cacao and a truffle ceremony are different things. With cacao you stay clear-headed and your perception does not change. With a truffle ceremony the experience goes deeper, the day lasts about 7 hours, and everything starts with a free 30-minute intro call with screening. Stars Frequencies guides truffle ceremonies in Amsterdam in a small group of up to 8 people (€295 per person) or privately (€495), always with meditation and sound healing.
