Truffle ceremony in Amsterdam: your questions, answered in English

Looking for an English-speaking truffle ceremony in Amsterdam? Stars Frequencies guides truffle ceremonies in Amsterdam: a day of about 7 hours, in a small group of at most 8 people (€295 per person) or privately (€495). This page answers the questions expats and visitors ask most, and whether your own ceremony can be guided in English is something you ask Rosa directly.

An English-speaking truffle ceremony in Amsterdam: where to start

Maybe you live in Amsterdam and your Dutch isn't there yet. Maybe you're here for a few weeks and you've read that truffles are legal in the Netherlands. Either way, you want to understand what you're signing up for before you say yes. That's a good instinct. The people who come to Rosa often run their lives from their heads: they read, compare, think it through. You're allowed to do that here too.

Stars Frequencies is Rosa's practice in Amsterdam. She guides the truffle ceremony herself, from the free 30-minute intro call to the end of the day. Meditation and sound healing with singing bowls are a fixed part of every ceremony, in a group and in a private ceremony alike. They give your head something to follow and help your body settle.

About language: this page is in English, but we don't promise here that every ceremony is guided in English. Write to Rosa and ask whether a ceremony in English is possible for you. That's the most honest place to begin.

What is legal in the Netherlands, and what isn't

Truffles (sclerotia) are legal in the Netherlands. They are not listed in the Opium Act. Mushrooms are a different story: fresh and dried mushrooms are on list II of the Opium Act, and fresh ones have been banned since 2008. Stars Frequencies only works with legal truffles.

Dutch law applies to everyone who is in the Netherlands, so the same rules count for residents and visitors. What it doesn't do is travel with you. The laws in your home country can be very different, and taking anything with you to another country is a separate question entirely. If you'd like to read more from an independent source, the Trimbos Institute publishes clear information in Dutch, and you can read more about the rules in our page on the legal side of a truffle ceremony.

Legal doesn't mean suitable for everyone. That's why every ceremony starts with a conversation, not with a booking.

Why a guided ceremony is different from taking truffles on your own

Truffles themselves are the same. What differs is everything around them. On your own, nobody checks beforehand whether your medication or history makes this a bad idea. Nobody is there if it gets heavy. And there's no structure for the hours when your thinking mind has less grip than usual.

A guided ceremony is built around exactly those moments. Here is what that looks like in practice with Rosa:

  • Screening first: in the intro call Rosa goes through your medication, health and contraindications, and says no if it isn't responsible.
  • The amount isn't a guess. We tune the amount to you together in the intro call.
  • Rosa is in the room for the whole ceremony. You can talk, move and ask her to come and sit with you.
  • A small group of at most 8 people, or a private ceremony if you'd rather be on your own.
  • Meditation and sound healing are a fixed part of every ceremony.
  • There is an emergency protocol.

For people who are used to being in control, that last part matters more than it seems. Letting go is not a requirement. It is a result. You don't have to force anything. The structure is there so you don't have to hold everything yourself. You can read the full approach on the safety and screening page.

If you're visiting Amsterdam: practical things to plan

Plan the ceremony as a whole day, not as one item on a busy holiday schedule. Keep the day itself completely free. Keep the day after clear too: no early flight home, no packed sightseeing, no parties. Give yourself time to land.

  • Don't drive yourself home on the day of the ceremony. Arrange for someone to pick you up, or travel by public transport.
  • Let someone know where you are, and give Rosa the name and number of an emergency contact.
  • Wear comfortable clothing in layers, and bring a bottle of water and your intention, written down.
  • Prepare over about two weeks if you can: less alcohol, lighter food and enough sleep.

The full checklist is on the preparation page for the truffle ceremony. The costs, including private and duo prices, are on the prices page.

“The preparation was so thorough. The intro call put me at ease right away. During the ceremony I felt held the entire time. Thank you, Rosa.”

About half of the participants are doing it for the first time. No experience needed. More stories are on the experiences page.

Frequently asked questions

Truffle ceremony FAQ for expats and visitors

Are truffles legal in the Netherlands for tourists?

Yes. Truffles (sclerotia) are legal in the Netherlands and are not listed in the Opium Act, and Dutch law applies in the same way to residents and visitors. Mushrooms are banned: they are on list II of the Opium Act. The laws of your home country can be different, so check them yourself. Stars Frequencies only works with legal truffles.

Is the ceremony guided in English?

Write to Rosa and ask whether a ceremony in English is possible for you. We don't want to promise it here without knowing your situation. You can send her a message on WhatsApp, and she will get back to you about what is possible.

How long does a truffle ceremony take?

A truffle ceremony at Stars Frequencies takes about 7 hours. Keep the whole day free and plan a calm day after it. Before the day there is a free intro call of 30 minutes and preparation you do at home.

What should I bring?

Bring comfortable clothing in layers, because it can get warm or cool. Add a bottle of water, your intention written down, a journal if you like, a personal object or photo as an anchor, and the name and number of an emergency contact. A meal is part of the day.

Can I do a truffle ceremony while on antidepressants?

Always bring it up in the intro call, because it depends on the medication. With some medication a ceremony isn't possible, with others only after talking to your doctor. With SSRIs and SNRIs the effect can be strongly reduced or unpredictable. Never stop medication on your own. Rosa honestly says no if it isn't responsible.

How is a guided ceremony different from taking truffles on my own?

A guided ceremony adds screening, preparation and someone who stays with you the whole time. Rosa checks your medication and health beforehand, tunes the amount to you together in the intro call, and stays in the room for the whole ceremony. The group is small, meditation and sound healing are a fixed part of the day, and there is an emergency protocol. On your own, none of that is there.

Who should not do a truffle ceremony?

A truffle ceremony is not suitable if you or a first-degree family member ever had psychosis or schizophrenia, if you have bipolar type I, during an acute mental health crisis or suicidal thoughts, or if you take lithium or MAO inhibitors. The same goes for severe heart or vascular disease, unstable elevated blood pressure, epilepsy, and pregnancy or breastfeeding. Other medication and conditions are always discussed in the intro call.

What if I have a bad trip during a truffle ceremony?

A difficult moment can happen, and you won't be alone with it. Sometimes fear, sadness or restlessness comes up, or something that has been pushed away for a long time. Rosa is in the room for the whole ceremony and comes to sit with you when you ask, or when she sees it's getting heavy. She helps you breathe through it rather than fight it.

I've never done this before. Is that a problem?

No. About half of the participants are doing it for the first time. No experience needed. You start with a free intro call of 30 minutes, you get preparation for at home, and on the day itself Rosa is there the whole time.

What does a truffle ceremony in Amsterdam cost?

A group ceremony costs €295 per person, with at most 8 people. A private ceremony costs €495. If you bring someone, each extra person gets 20% off, up to 4 people: €891 for two, €1,287 for three and €1,683 for four, together. You only pay once the intro call shows it suits you.
