What if I feel little during a truffle ceremonie?

6 mei 2026·5 min read time·By Rosa

There is an unspoken expectation many people bring to a truffle ceremonie: that it will be overwhelming. Visions, deep emotions, a mystical breakthrough. And while that is true for some, there are also participants who move through the day and think: 'Was that it?' This article is for them.

The expectation vs. reality

Popular representations of psychedelic experiences — in films, online stories, podcasts — tend to show the most intense side. The person who cries transformatively, who relives childhood memories, who sees colour in a new way. These are real experiences — but they are not representative of everyone. Many ceremonies unfold more quietly. And that is just as valid.

What 'feeling little' can actually mean

A subtle experience does not mean nothing happened. It can mean: your nervous system was already fairly relaxed (a good sign). The truffles worked underneath — without flooding conscious awareness. Something shifted in a way you will only notice later. SSRIs or other medication dampened the effect. Or the timing simply was not for an intensive breakthrough — and that is okay.

The hidden power of quiet ceremonies

Some of the most impactful ceremonies I have facilitated unfolded almost silently. No tears, no intense imagery — simply a person lying quietly, breathing, then standing up with a clarity that was hard to describe. 'I know now what I need to do' is a sentence that can be spoken without drama. And it is just as powerful as anything said in intensity.

The real effect reveals itself later

The period of heightened neural plasticity lasts 24-72 hours after a ceremonie. What arises in your daily life during that time — a conversation you finally have, a decision you make, a gentleness toward yourself that feels new — that is also integration. Even if the ceremonie itself was quiet. Pay attention to small shifts in the weeks that follow. They are there, even when they are not visible immediately.

The question to ask

Not: 'Did I feel enough?' But: 'What moved?' Sometimes the answer is large and clear. Sometimes it is small and quiet. Both are valid. Both deserve your attention. If you feel your ceremonie 'did not work' — reach out via WhatsApp. We are happy to discuss what was there and whether a follow-up ceremonie or integration conversation is a fit.

Frequently asked questions

What if the truffles have little or no effect?

A subtle experience is not the same as no effect. Sometimes the experience works underneath — you only notice later, in the integration phase, what has shifted. Factors such as SSRI use, nutrition and individual sensitivity play a role.

Is a quiet ceremonie less valuable?

No. Some of the most impactful ceremonies unfold without intense experiences. The insight does not arrive as a breakthrough — but as a gentle shift you notice in the days that follow: a calm, a clarity, a decision you could not make before.

How much do people typically feel in a truffle ceremonie?

This varies greatly per person, dosage, day and intention. At a standard dose most people notice a clear change in consciousness. But intensity varies — and intensity is not a measure of meaning.
